TROY, N.Y. – Powered by multiple victories from seven student-athletes, the Rensselaer men's and women's swimming & diving teams defeated Skidmore College in dual meet action on Saturday at Robison Pool. The men won by a score of 150-73 while the women were victorious, 142-91.
Leading the men was junior
Kevin Ehrlich (Manchester, CT/Manchester), who won the 1000-freestyle in a time of 10:45.27 and was victorious in the 100-free (51.49). Senior
Steve Hall (Johnstown, NY/Johnstown) also had a solid afternoon, winning the 100-butterfly in a time of 55.95 and helping the 200-medley relay team to victory in a time of 1:45.17.
Other members of the victorious 400-medley team were
Michael Suarez (Yorktown Heights, NY/Yorktown),
Brandon McDowell (Alexandria, VA/West Potomac) and
Will Carder (Virginia Beach, VA/Oceanlakes).
For the women, junior
Meredith Eger (Littleton, CO/Heritage) won the 200-individual medley in a time of 2:18.04 and the 100-free with a time 56.55. She also helped the 200-medley relay team of
Eva Skorupka (North Andover, MA/Central Catholic),
Aimee Catroppa (Scotia, NY/Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake) and
Amanda Moyer (Woodstock, NY/Kingston High) to victory in a time of 1:58.03.
Skorupka also won the 100-backstroke (1:06.34) while Moyer was victorious in the 50-free (26.05). Rookie
Carly Antonucci (Long Valley, NJ/West Morris Central) also had a solid afternoon, winning the 100-butterfly (1:02.07) and the 100-breaststroke (1:11.26).
The Thoroughbreds of Skidmore were led by Jen Piepenbrink (Wenham, MA/Hamilton Wenham), who won the 500-free (5:33.97) and helped the 200-free relay team to victory (1:47.27).
Rensselaer returns to the pool next Saturday with a dual meet against Hamilton at Robison Pool. Meet time is at 1pm.
