ITHACA, N.Y. – Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) continued its strong showing at the 2026 Liberty League Swimming & Diving Championships on Thursday at Ithaca College, as the women's team remained second among nine programs while the men's team climbed one position into third after another productive day of competition.
The highlight of the session came in the 200 freestyle, where
Jason Weller delivered a standout performance for the Engineers, winning the men's title with a time of 1:39.33. The swim not only earned top honors but also met the NCAA B qualifying standard.
Sierra Pargett captured first place in the 200 free as well with an impressive time of 1:53.18.
RPI also collected valuable points in the 100 butterfly, led by
Vera Korff, who finished third with a time of 57.02 seconds.
Elizabeth Rose followed closely behind, placing fifth in 57.46, while
Hannah Goddard rounded out the RPI contingent in the event with an eighth-place finish at 59.05 seconds.
The 400 IM proved to be another strong event for the Engineers, highlighted by
Sam Ciegler's third-place finish on the men's side with a time of 4:06.55. The women's 400 IM featured a trio of RPI scorers, as
Ellie Tandlmayer placed second in 4:40.56,
Corinne Boyle followed in third at 4:44.05, and
Gwenyth Snyder finished fifth with a time of 4:44.83.
In diving action,
Ella Simpson represented RPI in the women's 1-meter event, earning seventh place with a score of 413.15.
The evening concluded with the 200 freestyle relays, where both RPI squads again reached the podium for gar second consecutive night. The men's relay team of
Beckham Palmer,
Jason Weller,
Ethan Young, and
Tyler Kim placed third with a time of 1:24.35, while the women's relay of
Vera Korff,
Sierra Pargett,
Theresa Funderburk, and
Elizabeth Rose finished second in 1:35.73.
The championships continue Friday with the 200 medley relay, 200 butterfly, 100 backstroke, 100 breaststroke, men's 1-meter diving, and the 800 freestyle relay.
