SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – The Union women's tennis team picked up wins in five of six singles matches and was victorious in two of three doubles matches on its way to a 7-2 victory over Rensselaer on Tuesday in Schenectady. Senior captain
Christine Roe played a part in both points for RPI, with wins at first singles and second doubles.
The Dutchwomen won two of its three doubles matches. Sophomore Brittany Gilbert and freshman Dee Dee Gaudin picked up an 8-6 win over
Rachel Smith and
Brianna Dickie in the No. 2 spot while sophomore Kristen Ryan and junior Samantha Griffith defeated
Kimberly Viles and
Hetal Baman in No. 3 doubles.
In singles action, Malkin defeated
Jessica Sitzer 6-4, 6-3 in the No. 2 position. Gilbert came strong in the No. 3 spot, defeating
Zosia Casterline 7-5, 6-4 and sophomore Andria Coopersmith defeated Dickie 6-1, 6-1 in the No. 4 position.
Gaudin and Ryan each picked up wins in their singles matches. Gaudin defeated Baman 6-4, 6-1 in the No. 5 spot and Ryan defeated Alexandra Armstrong 6-1, 6-4 in the No. 6 position.
The fall side of the 2009-10 season will conclude for both teams this weekend at the New York State Championships, hosted by Ithaca College.
