Potsdam, NY – The seventh-ranked Rensselaer men's soccer team played Clarkson to a 0-0 draw at Hantz Turf Field. With the tie, the Engineers move to 10-1-2 overall, including a 3-1-1 mark in Liberty League play. The Golden Knights are now 5-7-2 and 0-4-1 in the conference.
RPI held the advantage in the first half, possessing the ball in the Clarkson defensive end for a good portion of the half. The Engineers hit the crossbar on two occasions, including a shot by
Blake Adams, who hit the top bar from the six-yard line with an open net in front of him at 17:58. Rensselaer finished the period with an 11-0 edge in shots and a 2-0 lead in corner kick chances.
Clarkson started the second half with two solid chances as Scott Desmond (Enfield, CT) rifled a pair of shot s just wide from the top of the 18-yard box, both coming in the first 10 minutes. Rensselaer responded with several good chances as well, including a hard shot from 25-yards out by Adams that required a sprawling save from Clarkson keeper Adam Lamoureux (Falmouth, ME). Lamoureux came up big just a few minutes later, stopping a point-blank shot from
Jabel Prom inside the six.
Both teams had chances in the rest of the half, but offsides cost each solid chances offensively, forcing the game into overtime. The two extra sessions held more of the same, as neither team could find the back of the net.
The Engineers finished with a 20-8 edge in shots, as the two teams played mostly even in that category for the final 65 minutes. Both squads finished with five corner kicks.
Lamoureux made eight saves for his second shutout in five games this season. Rensselaer's
Alex Penny made two stops, producing his eighth whitewash of the campaign.
