TROY, N.Y. – Senior defenseman Mike Schreiber (Sherwood Park, AB/Ft. McMurray Oil Barons) scored on a screen shot from the left point with 18.9 seconds left in regulation to send the Union men's hockey team to a 5-4 come-from-behind victory over Rensselaer in ECAC Hockey action, at the Houston Field House. With the win the Dutchmen improve to 8-3-5 overall (4-0-3 ECACH), while the Engineers fall to 8-9-1 (3-4-0 ECACH).

Schreiber's slap shot found its way through a screen and inside the left post for the eventual game-winning goal at 19:41 of the third period. Junior Stephane Boileau (Blainville, PQ/Ste. Jerome Panthers) and senior Jon Lareau (Plainville, MA/Boston Junior Bruins) picked up the assists on Schreiber's fourth of the year.

Just 32 seconds earlier (19:09), Dutchman senior Jason Walters (Renfrew, ON/Pembroke Lumber Kings) tied the game at 4-4, with the goalie pulled for an extra attacker. Schreiber took a shot that was blocked and the rebound was put home by Walters.

Senior Mario Valery-Trabucco (Montreal, PQ/Northwood School), who had a hat-trick in the game, gave Union a 1-0 lead on a 5-on-3 power-play, 5:55 into the opening frame. The Dutchmen worked the puck around to the right circle to junior Adam Presizniuk (Calgary, AB/Powell River Kings), who sent a pass across the low slot to a wide-open Valery-Trabucco, who buried a second shot for the goal after his first attempt was stopped the right pad of RPI sophomore netminder Allen York (Wetaskiwin, AB/Camrose Kodiaks).

The Engineers answered with a power-play goal of their own less than three minutes later, when freshman Marty O'Grady (London, ON/Langley Chiefs) drove at the left edge of the crease to swat in a backhander for his third of the season. Junior Chase Polacek (Edina, MN/Academy of Holy Angels) won the puck along the right wing boards and sent it to freshman Brandon Pirri (Toronto, ON/Georgetown Raiders) at the right point. Pirri's shot went wide of the net but caromed out in front for O'Grady to finish.

Sophomore Alex Angers-Goulet (St. Augustin, PQ/Langley Chiefs) broke a 1-1 at 2:18 of the second period on a one-timer right in front of the Union cage. Freshman Jerry D'Amigo (Binghamton, NY/U.S. National Under-18 Team) delivered a blind backhand pass from behind the net to Angers-Goulet for the goal. Pirri earned the second assist on Angers-Goulet's second of the year.

Polacek gave the Engineers a 3-1 advantage of a rebound at 1:40 of the third period. Sophomore Patrick Cullen (Washington, DC/Indiana Ice) picked up the lone assist as his shot from the left side was pushed towards the right circle. Polacek corralled the puck and wristed a shot through Union freshman netminder Keith Kinkaid (Farmingville, NY/St. Louis Bandits).

Valery-Trabucco then netted two quick goals to complete the hat-trick and knot the game at three apiece, 5:40 into the third period. His first – at 3:44 of the final stanza – came on a screen shot from just inside the left circle. Two minutes later, Valery-Trabucco carried in from the right and ripped a shot that beat York high-blocker side.

Polacek gave the hosts the lead back (4-3) with seven and half minutes to go on a tough-angle shot along the goal line, left of the cage. Classmate Tyler Helfrich (Calgary, AB/Prince George Spruce Kings) fed a pass down low to Polacek, who beat Kinkaid to the near post for the goal.

The Engineers return to the ice for a non-league contest on Friday, when they visit defending national champion Boston University (7pm). Union takes on the U.S. National Under-18 Team at home on Friday (7pm).
