Box Score

HAMILTON, N.Y. – Despite 27 saves from freshman netminder Allen York (Wetaskiwin, AB/Camrose Kodiaks), the Rensselaer men's hockey team fell in overtime, 2-1, to Colgate at Starr Rink. With the win, the Raiders improve to 11-16-6 (6-11-4 ECAC Hockey), while the Engineers move to 7-23-2 (6-13-1 ECACH).

Colgate junior David McIntyre (Pefferlaw, ON/Newmarket Hurricanes) notched the game-winning goal with just 1:01 to go in overtime. The tally, which was his second of the game, came on a pass from senior Peter Bogdanich (Burnaby, BC / Chilliwack Chiefs) from behind the net. McIntyre fired a one-timer from just right of the RPI crease for the goal. The OT marker came after a scoreless third period.

RPI Sophomore Joel Malchuk (Brandon, MB/Dauphin Kings) scored his first career goal to give the visitors a 1-0 lead at 15:49 of the first. He took a pass from senior assistant captain Kurt Colling (Ripley, ON/Vernon Vipers) and buried wrist shot from the low slot. Colgate netminder Charles Long (Cleveland, OH/Brockville Braves) got a piece of the puck with his left shoulder, but could not get enough of it to keep it out of the net.

The Raiders tied the game at 14:25 of the second frame on a breakaway goal by McIntyre, who picked up a loose puck in his own defensive zone, flew up ice, and beat York five-hole.

Long earned the victory for Colgate, making 19 saves. Neither team was able to convert on special teams, as the Raiders went 0 for 6, while Rensselaer finished 0 for 4.

The Engineers return to action next Friday and Saturday, when they host North Country rivals Clarkson and St. Lawrence, respectively. Puck drop on both nights is set for 7pm.
