Box Score

TROY, N.Y. – Junior goaltender Alex Petizian stopped all 31 shots he faced to record his second consecutive shutout and help #17 St. Lawrence University to a 2-0 win over Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) at the Houston Field House in the regular season finale for both teams.

St. Lawrence improves to 19-11-4 (11-7-4 ECAC Hockey) and finishes in fourth place in the league standings. The Saints earned a bye through the first round of the playoffs and will host a second round best-of-three series in two weeks. The Engineers finish the regular season with a record of 7-25-2 (6-15-1 ECAC Hockey) and are the 11th seed in the league's playoffs. RPI will travel to sixth-seeded Dartmouth for the best-of-three first round next weekend.

The shut-out was Petizian's (Kirkland, PQ) second of the season, and he now has a record of 15-8-4 on the year. He made nine saves in the first period, 10 in the second and 12 in the third a night after stopping all 31 shots he faced in a 2-0 win over Union College on Friday. His counterpart, senior Mathias Lange (Klagenfurt, Austria/New York Apple Core) recorded 27 saves for Rensselaer, and is now 5-17-2.

St. Lawrence opened the game's scoring, capitalizing on a power-play opportunity midway through the first period. Defenseman Shawn Fensel (Nepean, ONT.) collected the puck off of a rebound and blasted the puck past Lange for his fourth goal of the season. Freshman Mark Armstrong (Palm Harbor, FL) and sophomore Jared Keller (Wilkie, SK) assisted on the play.

The Saints increased their lead to two, scoring late in the second period. Once again on the power-play, Fensel fed the puck to junior Mike McKenzie (Whitby, ONT) along the right side of the goal and he fired it into the top left corner of the net at the 18:31 mark. Senior Brock McBride (Cornwall, ONT) also earned an assist on the play.
