Sara Finkbeiner and
Kelly Erkert each drove in five runs in game 1, as the Rensselaer softball team defeated Russell Sage, 25-0 and 19-0, in a non-league doubleheader, this afternoon at Doris Robison Field. With the wins the Red Hawks improve to 10-4 overall, while the Gators move to 4-12.
Rensselaer opened things up early in game 1, scoring nine times in the second to take a 10-0 lead after two. The inning was highlighted by a two-run home run by sophomore
Jen Bach (Lansdale, PA) and a bases clearing double off the bat of freshman
Sara Heller (Guilderland, NY). Bach's homer was her team-leading fifth of the season.
After the Red Hawks added five more in the third, they put together a 10-run fourth to bring the game to its final margin. Erkert had a pair of two-run base hits in the inning, including a two-RBI double.
Felicia Bua (Gilford, NH) and Bach combined to allow just one hit over the 5.0 inning game. Bua finished with a two strikeouts and a walk in 3.0 innings, while Bach had one strikeout without allowing a base-runner in 2.0 innings of relief.
Finkbeiner went 2 for 6 with two runs and five runs batted in. Erkert finished 3 for 4 with three runs and five RBI, while Bach went 2 for 4 with a home run, two runs and two RBIs.
In game two, RPI scored two in the first inning and two in the second to hold an early 5-0 edge after two. Heller came through with a sacrifice fly that plated Finkbeiner in the first, before junior
Becky Bailey (Rome, NY) laced an RBI-double into right-centerfield in the second. Heller then replaced Bailey at second with a run-scoring double of her own.
Rensselaer put the game away in the fourth, scoring 14 times on 10 hits. Leading the Red Hawks offensively in game two was sophomore
Genevieve Falco (Seaford, NY) who went 2 for 4 with a home run and four runs batted in. Heller finished 3 for 3 with two doubles and four RBIs.

Michelle Street (East Syracuse, NY) surrendered just two hits and two walks, while striking out five Gators to earn the 5.0 inning complete game victory.
The Red Hawks return to the diamond tomorrow afternoon against Mount St. Mary's at Robison Field (3pm).
