TROY, N.Y. – Sophomore
Jen Bach (Lansdale, PA) hit a home run and pitched 5.2 innings of scoreless relief in game 1, and the Rensselaer softball team went on to sweep Mount St. Mary, 3-2 (9 inn.) and 11-3, at Doris Robison Field. With the wins, the Red Hawks improve to 12-4 overall, while the Blue Knights fall to 4-14.

Becky Bailey (Rome, NY) scored on a wild pitch with two outs in the ninth inning to give the hosts a 3-2 game one victory. Bach earned the win in game one scattering eight hits, while striking out nine over 5.2 innings. Starter
Felicia Bua (Gilford, NH) went 3.1 innings, surrendering two runs on six hits.
Mount St. Mary opened the scoring in the second on an RBI-single by junior Christine DelPiano (Orange, CT). After the Red Hawks tied the game at one in the bottom of the third on a base hit by senior
Sara Finkbeiner (Napanoch, NY), the Blue Knights retook the lead in the top of the fourth, when DelPiano plated sophomore Jackie Governale (Bethpage, NY) with a double to straight-away center.
Bach's sixth home run of the season – an opposite field shot – knotted things at two in the bottom of the fourth. The score remained 2-2 until the ninth, when Bailey reached on a single to right and eventually came home on the wild pitch.
Blue Knights starting pitcher Erin Dommeruth (Hopewell Junction, NY) threw the first 8.0 innings, allowing two runs (1 earned) on six hits, before being replaced by Erin Lappe (Goshen, NY), who took the loss after recording two outs in the ninth.
Game two saw Rensselaer jump out to an early 3-0 lead in the first. Bach drove an RBI-double to right, before classmate
Alysa Rochminski (Schenectady, NY) added a two-run single. All three runs came with two outs in the inning.
The Red Hawks tacked on another run in the second and two more in the third to take a 6-0 lead. The visitors answered with a three-run top of the fourth. Lappe delivered the biggest blow, doubling home two.
RPI came back with five runs on five hits in the bottom of the fourth inning to put the game out of reach. Rochminski and fellow sophomore
Alicia Miksic (Cheswick, PA) drove in three runs each, while Finkbeiner went 3 for 4 with two runs and an RBI. She also threw a complete game from the circle, allowing three runs on five hits over 5.0 innings.
The Red Hawks return to action on Saturday when they host Castleton State (3pm). RPI then visits Nazareth on Sunday (1pm).
