Clark gave Rensselaer the lead for good a little over a minute later after she converted a Sam Fennessey (Gansevoort, NY/Saratoga Springs) pass for a 2-1 lead. Senior Emily Donowick (West Seneca, NY/Nichols School) scored minutes later to make it a two-goal advantage (5-3) for the Red Hawks, heading into the intermission. Hood, who recorded 11 saves through the first half came up with a number of key stops to keep Rensselaer into the game, including several point-blank saves mid-way through the frame.

Rensselaer continued to build its lead in the second frame, scoring three straight goals, including tallies by seniors Clark and Donowick to push the lead to 8-3 within the first eight minutes of the half. Wooters tallied to cut the score back to 8-4 with just over 10 minutes to play, but momentum continued to swing in the Red Hawks favor as they scored three straight for a seven-goal lead (11-4) with 5:55 remaining.
