ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The University of Rochester broke away from a 5-5 tie with three goals in the last four minutes of the first half and went on to a 12-6 women's lacrosse victory over Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute at Edwin Fauver Stadium on Friday. The Yellowjackets improved to 6-8 overall and are now 2-5 in conference while the Red Hawks fall to 7-7 and finishes 3-5 in Liberty League play.

Mary Kate Hannan (Syracuse , NY /CBA) scored twice in the game-turning spurt and Megan Jenkins (Baldwinsville , NY /C.W. Baker) had one goal. Rochester jumped ahead, 5-1, after 10 minutes, but RPI fought back to a 5-5 tie with four straight goals, two by Stephanie Caouette (Wynantskill , NY/Columbia ).

Hannan scored from the free position with 4:21 to go, then Jenkins scored unassisted just 38 seconds later. Hannan made it 8-5 when she scored from close range with one second to play in the period.

Amanda Case ( McLean , VA /Langley) and Lindsay Dakin (Henrietta, NY/Rush-Henrietta) scored in the first four minutes of the second half, pushing the lead to 10-5. It grew to 11-5 on Hannan's fourth goal of the game with 16:19 remaining.

Hannan led the Yellowjackets with four goals. Dakin scored three. Abby Woodward (Pittsford, NY/Pittsford Sutherland) had one goal and two assists. Case scored twice. Jenkins and Niki Holmes (New Woodstock, NY/Cazenovia) had single goals. Erica Gelb (Baltimore , MD /The Park School) had one assist.

Caouette led RPI with three goals. Afton Marshall (Windham , NH/Salem) had a goal and an assist. Emily Donowick (West Seneca , NY/The Nichols School) and Whitney Kukol (Johnson City , NY/Johnson City) had solo goals. Kerri Clark (Saratoga Springs , NY/Saratoga Springs) had one assist.

Leslie Dube ( Skaneateles , NY /Marcellus) made seven saves for Rochester . Ariana Hood (Severn , MD/Old Mill) had eight saves for the Red Hawks.

Rochester held a 21-17 advantage on ground balls (Jenkins led with five for Rochester , Donowick and Tracy Breslin (Latham , NY /Shaker) had three for RPI. The Yellowjackets won 12 draw controls to eight for RPI. Dakin won four draws, Gelb won three. Kukol had three for RPI.

Rochester returns to action tomorrow afternoon when it hosts Vassar (2pm).  The Red Hawks concluded their schedule with Friday's contest.
