NEW PALTZ, N.Y. – The SUNY New Paltz women's tennis team defeated Rensselaer, 9-0, in non-conference action. With the win, the Hawks improve to 7-1 overall, while the Engineers, who drop their first match of the season, fall to 1-1.
New Paltz started doubles off with a bang, winning all three matches. At first doubles, sophomores Montana Wilson and Kayla DiPaulo led the Hawks with an 8-3 victory, followed by sophomore Alli Esposito and freshman Paige Munroe at second doubles, 8-1, and senior Lindsey Garyn and junior Juliette Brandon at flight three, 8-2.
The Hawks then topped RPI in singles. Wilson led the team at No. 1 by defeating
Zosia Casterline, 6-1, 6-0. Garyn downed
Jessica Sitzer, 6-2, 6-1, at No. 2, while DiPaulo upended freshman
Emily Broadbent at No. 3, 6-1, 6-1.
