TROY, N.Y. - Senior
Jessica Sitzer won a super tiebreaker in what turned out to be the deciding match as the Rensselaer women's tennis team defeated Hartwick, 5-3, in a match shortened by darkness. The Engineers improve to 2-1, while the Hawks fall to 4-6.
After RPI won all three doubles matches, Hartwick came back to win three of the four singles matches that were completed as darkness fell. Tied at a set apiece at number one singles, Sitzer and Jen Lin played a super tiebreaker to decide their match, with Sitzer prevailing, 6-2, 3-6, 10-8, for the team victory.
The Engineers took a commanding lead in the match by winning all three doubles matches, including Sitzer and
Emily Broadbent at number one as they defeated Lin and Kim Post, 8-6. Hartwick then won singles at numbers two, three and four to pull within one match. The match at sixth singles did not finish due to darkness.
