ITHACA, N.Y. - The Ithaca softball team (9-5) stretched its winning streak to five with a sweep of visiting Rensselaer (5-8) Saturday. The Bombers hit five home runs in the doubleheader with a school-record four in their 10-2 win in the opener. Ithaca won game two 8-0 in six innings.
In the first game, Ithaca two, three and fourth place hitters combined for five hits, five runs and five RBI to lead the Bombers. Freshman Jennifer Biondi (Denville, NJ/Morris Knolls), the second place hitter, was 2 for 3 with two runs, junior Brittany Lillie (Honeoye Falls, NY/Honeoye Falls-Lima) was 2 for 2, including a double and a home run, with two runs and two RBI, and clean-up hitter Molly O'Donnell (Niskayuna, NY/Niskayuna) was 1 for 3 with a home run, a run and three runs batted in.
Four student-athletes had single hits for RPI, including junior third baseman
Genevieve Falco (Seaford, NY/Seaford), who hit a home run. Senior shortstop
Becky Bailey (Rome, NY/Holland Patent) also had a hit and an RBI for the Engineers.
Felicia Bua (Gilford, NH/Gilford) suffered the loss from the circle, while Allison Greaney (Iselin, NJ/John F. Kennedy) earned the win.
Game two saw Ithaca senior Alyssa Brook (Tinton Falls, NJ/Monmouth Regional)
retired the last 11 batters she faced and finished with a two-hit shutout. She struck out six and walked one in upping her record to 2-1.
Bailey had one of RPI's hits, while freshman
Caitlin McGivern (Bethlehem, PA/Notre Dame) had the other. Junior
Jen Bach (Lansdale, PA/Gwynedd Mercy Academy) suffered the loss.
