Bach throws complete game and homers as Engineers win two

CLERMONT, Fla. - The Rensselaer softball won for the first time this season, downing Elizabethtown, 10-2, this morning, before toppling Dominican, 7-2. Junior Jen Bach (Lansdale, PA/Gwynedd Mercy Academy) threw a complete game and hit a home run in the victory over the Stars. With the victories, RPI improves to 2-4 on the Spring.

In game one, junior starting pitcher Felicia Bua (Gilford, NH/Gilford) earned the win, going 5.0 inning and allowing just two runs on two hits. Bach pitched a scoreless inning in relief surrendering just a pair of hits, while going 2 for 4 at the dish.

Offensively, freshman Gillian McCarthy (Worthington, OH/Thomas Worthington) went 2 for 4 with two runs scored and three runs batted in. Classmate Caitlin McGivern (Bethlehem, PA/Notre Dame) was 2 for 3 with a double a run and an RBI. Junior captain Genevieve Falco (Seaford, NY/Seaford) went 1 for 3 with two runs and two RBIs, while sophomore Sara Heller (Guilderland, NY/Guilderland) finished 1 for 4 with a run and two RBIs.

Game two saw McCarthy hit her first collegiate home run, as the freshman went 2 for 3 with a double, a run and two RBIs. Bach pitched all 7.0 innings, allowing two runs on six hits and striking out three. She also homered, and finished 2 for 3 with two runs scored. Sophomore Kelly Erkert (Burlington, NJ/Burlington Township) chipped in by going 2 for 4 with a pair of runs.
