TROY, N.Y. – Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) sophomore Morgan Danner (McLean, VA/Langley) stole the show at the 2010 Liberty League Outdoor Championships, garnering Outstanding Performer of the Meet honors after winning five events. The women pulled off a dominating performance to win this year's title, posting 239 points. RPI's men's team also claimed victory with an 82-point advantage over second-place St. Lawrence.

This marks the second straight season that both squads have won the outdoor titles, claiming victory in 2009. The men's squad has now captured four straight Liberty League Championships, winning both in 2009 & 2010. The women have won three straight, with an outdoor win in 2009 and a sweep of both titles in 2010.

Danner blew the competition away at this year's meet, winning five events and finishing fourth in a sixth. She won the 100-dash in a time of 13.46 and the 200-dash with a mark of 27.71. She also helped the 4x200 relay team to a win with a time of 51.35. In the field events, Danner won the pole vault with a mark of 3.05 meters and was first in the long jump with a distance of 5.20 meters.

Her win in the pole vault marks the fourth straight of her career at the league meet, having won the event at both the indoor and outdoor meets over the last two seasons.

Also taking home top honors at this year's meet was senior Erik Whiting (Fultonville, NY/Fonda-Fultonville), who garnered Outstanding Performer of the Meet on the men's side with two wins and a third-place finish. He won the discus with a throw of 40.95 meters and then claimed the hammer throw title for the second straight season with a career-best and NCAA Provisional distance of 56.02 meters. Whiting was also third in the shot put with a mark of 12.26 meters.

In addition to Danner and Whiting, the Engineers saw several other student-athletes put forth solid performances at the meet, including senior Kyle Barden (Poughkeepsie, NY/Spackenkill) and junior Alec Marshall (Wayne, NJ/Wayne Valley).

Barden won the 400-dash in a time of 49.97 and captured the 200-dash with a time of 23.01, while Marshall posted wins in the 400-m hurdles (56.28) and the 110-m hurdles (15.37).

Senior Cassie Fortini (Sandown, NH/Timberlane) won the 400-dash (1:00.31), while classmates Tracey Knoop (N. Syracuse, NY/Bishop Grimes) and Mike Cipollone (Swan Point, MD/McDonough) also posted victories, winning the women's (1.58 meters) and men's (1.98 meters) high jump events, respectively.

Rounding out the first place individual finishers at this year's meet were senior Justin Metzger (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa) and sophomore Sage D'Aprile (Norwich, VT/Hanover), who won the pole vault (3.95m) and the javelin (53.47m), respectively. In the relay events, the women's 4x100 (51.35) and the 4x400 (4:14.30), along with the men's 4x400 (3:30.07) also won.

The RPI women posted 239 points to win the meet, finishing 70 points ahead of second-place St. Lawrence (169). Vassar was third with 90 points, while Union finished in fourth (66). On the men's side, RPI was first (285), St. Lawrence finished second (203), while Union (60) and Vassar (28) rounded out the meet.

Both squads are back in action next weekend, hosting the Capital District Classic at Harkness Track & Field on Saturday. The meet is set to begin at 11am.
