TROY, N.Y. – The Rensselaer women's tennis team received solid performances from a number of players in defeating Union College, 6-3, this afternoon at Sharp Courts. With the win, the Engineers improve to 5-6 overall, while the Dutchwomen fall to 3-9.
Beating Union for the first time since 2006, RPI saw senior
Kimberly Viles (Cheektowaga, NY/Cheektowaga) come away victorious at fifth flight singles, 6-3, 6-3, while teaming up with classmate
Jeanette Carillo (Brooklyn, NY/Fontbonne Hall Academy) to win at third doubles, 9-8 (7-5). Sophomore
Zosia Casterline (Farmington, MI/Farmington) also picked up two wins, including a victory at third singles, 6-4, 4-6, 6-1.
Both squads return to action this weekend, when they take part in the Liberty League Championships hosted by St. Lawrence. Play opens Friday (9am).
