ONEONTA, N.Y. – Four Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) student-athletes achieved NCAA Provisional marks, while a number of others put forth solid performances at the non-team scoring Oneonta State May Meet, hosted by Oneonta State. Leading the way was senior Erik Whiting, who recorded his eighth straight NCAA Qualifying mark this season.

Whiting (Fultonville, NY/Fonda-Fultonville) posted a distance of 54.37 meters in the hammer throw this afternoon, finishing second overall in the event. In eight meets this season, he has recorded an NCAA Provisional mark in the hammer throw each time.

Senior Rachel Guillot (Morrisville, VT/Peoples Academy) also had an outstanding effort at Oneonta, finishing second overall in the 400-m hurdles with an NCAA Provisional time of 1:03.56. Rookie Olivia vonNieda (Ephrata, PA/Lancaster Catholic) was third in the same event with a mark of 1:05.84.

Freshman Kirsten Orrell (Millbury, MA/Millbury) shined in today's competition, claiming victory in two events to solidify her outstanding season. She won the shot put with a mark of 12.91 meters and then finished first in the discus with a throw of 41.72 meters. Both distances were NCAA Provisional marks and Oneonta State May Meet records.

Senior pole vaulter Justin Metzger (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa) posted the fourth NCAA Provisional mark of the day for the Engineers, finishing second in his event with a height of 4.72 meters.

Sophomore Morgan Danner (McLean, VA/Langley) was fourth in the long jump with a distance of 5.09 meters and also placed third in the pole vault (3.10m), while senior Tracey Knoop (North Syracuse, NY/Bishop Grimes) placed fourth in the high jump with a height of 1.58 meters.

Thursday's meet concluded the regular season schedule for the Engineers' track & field squads. Select members from each team have recorded NCAA Provisional marks throughout the season and will now wait to find out if they will be selected to participate in the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships.

This year's National Meet will be held at Baldwin-Wallace College in Berea, Ohio on May 27-29. Selections for the NCAA Championships will be unveiled on Sunday.
