Engineers men fall 186-114; Women shoulder 192-100 loss

SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) men's and women's swimming and diving teams shouldered dual meet losses at Union College on Friday. The men fell by a score of 186-114 and are now 3-2 in dual meet action this season. RPI's women's squad is now 1-3-1 after suffering a 192-100 loss at the hands of the Dutchwomen.

Pacing the men's squad in his first career meet was sophomore Nate Hosking (Keene, NH/Keene), who won the 1000-freestyle in a time of 9:54.14 and also claimed victory in the 500-free with a mark of 4:54.88.

Senior Julian Schott (New Canaan, CT/New Canaan) also had multiple success as he won the 100-breaststroke (1:00.97) and the 200-breast (2:16.88). Schott also helped the 200-medley relay team to victory in a time of 1:39.64. Other members of the relay included sophomore Ben LeRose (Williamsburg, VA/Lafayette), senior captain Alex Updegrove (Carson City, NV/Carson) and junior captain Luke Flanagan (Old Bethpage, NY/Plainview-Old Bethpage-JFK).

In the diving events, rookie Miguel Hummel (Pittsburgh, PA/Fordham Prep) claimed victory off the 3-meter board with a score of 284.77 points.

On the women's side, the Engineers saw a number of solid efforts, including senior captain Grace Fitzgerald (Manchester, NH/Manchester), who won both diving events. She had a score of 233.92 points to win the 1-meter and 248.25 points for the victory off the 3-meter board.

Sophomore Tina Belletete (Winchendon, MA/Gardner) won the 1000-freestyle (11:03.09), while junior captain Carly Antonucci (Long Valley, NJ/West Morris Central) was the winner of the 100-breast (1:10.45).  

Other winners on the women's side included sophomore Christina Provenza (Millersville, MD/Severna Park), who was victorious in the 200-butterfly (2:16.59).

The men's squad is back in the pool on Saturday, hosting the eight-team Henry Kumpf Invitational at Robison Pool (12pm). The women return to action on January 22 as they host their own six-team meet, the RPI Invitational at Robison Pool (12pm).
