Engineers Roll Past Thoroughbreds

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) men's swimming & diving team defeated Skidmore 212–68 in a Liberty League dual meet this afternoon.

RPI opened the day with a statement in the 200 medley relay, as the team of Jason Weller, Peter Meehan, Tyler Kim, and Beckham Palmer combined for a winning time of 1:37.66. That momentum carried throughout the afternoon, with the Engineers delivering dominant results across all disciplines.

Jason Weller put together a stellar triple, earning wins in the 50 freestyle (21.78), 200 backstroke (1:55.82), and contributing to both relay victories. Beckham Palmer followed suit, taking second in the 50 free (22.79), winning the 100 freestyle (49.04), and helping lead the 200 freestyle relay team to victory in 1:27.62 alongside Kim, Weller, and Ethan Young.

Kim added to his day in individual events as well, as he placed second in the 200 free (1:47.61) and claimed first in the 200 breaststroke (2:14.86). Peter Meehan secured top honors in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:01.61, while Lucas Young finished second in that race (1:03.98).

Patrick Epifano outpaced the field in the 1000 freestyle, touching in 10:14.75, with teammate Joshua Collins right behind at 10:22.95. Collins added a second-place finish in the 200 butterfly (2:02.43), while Connor Freeze (5:00.51) and John Holden (5:00.69) led a thrilling finish in the 500 freestyle, with the pair separated by just 0.18 seconds for the top two spots.

Hayden Dinkin shined in the butterfly events, sweeping both with wins in the 200 fly (1:57.41) and 100 fly (53.29), and later took third in the 200 IM. Samuel Ciegler put up a strong double of his own, winning both the 200 freestyle(1:47.00) and the 200 individual medley (2:00.49), while Rittivuth Chea provided a win in the 100 backstroke (53.33) and a runner-up finish in the 100 fly (54.03). Ian Evans contributed valuable points, second on both the 1-meter (164.18 points) and 3-meter (136.35 points) boards.

RPI closed the meet the way they opened it, with a decisive relay win, as Kim, Palmer, Weller, and Young sprinted to a win in the 200 freestyle relay with a time of 1:27.62.

The Engineers next host Hamilton on Saturday at 1:00 pm in Robison Pool.
