TROY, N.Y. – Senior Tony Yeboah scored the go-ahead goal in the 74th minute to lead the 18th-ranked Hobart men's soccer team to a come-from-behind, 2-1, victory over Rensselaer, in Liberty League action at Renwyck Field. With the win, the Statesmen improve to 9-1-0 overall (1-1-0 Liberty), while the Engineers drop to 4-3-2 (0-2-1 Liberty).

A cross from the right flank by senior striker Tommy Hayes (East Northport, NY/St. Anthony's) was deflected towards the top of the penalty area for Yeboah, who ripped a right-footed shot inside the left post for the eventual game-winning goal. The tally came just five minutes after Hobart had knotted the score at 1-1.

Following a Statesmen corner kick, senior centerback Lukas Petersen (Burlington, VT/Burlington) was taken down in the box, drawing a penalty kick in the 69th minute. Petersen took the penalty, firing right down the center, past RPI sophomore goalkeeper Craig Bennett (Oakdale, NY/Connetquot).

Rensselaer freshman Matt Koziol (Poughkeepsie, NY/Franklin D. Roosevelt) gave the hosts a, 1-0, lead in the 62nd minute off a free kick, taken by senior Alex Papageorgis (Montclair, NJ/Montclair). Sending a cross just outside the six yard box, Papageorgis found Koziol, who headed home his fourth of the season, under the diving attempt of Hobart senior keeper Charlie Hale (Winchester, MA/Winchester).

Both sides had a number of first half chances, but neither were able to find the scoresheet through 45 minutes.

Engineers' junior Adam Updegrove (Carson City, NV/Carson) produced the first two chances of the contest. The first came off of an RPI corner, in which his shot from close range was blocked by traffic in front of the net. He then had an opportunity on a headed cross by senior Matt Koliopoulos (Franklin, MA/Franklin) that he drilled right into the arms of Hale.

Hayes came up with a pair of quality chances for Hobart late in the first half, but his first two tries went wide, and a third attempt was hit squarely, but directly at Bennett, who was able to smother the shot right before the horn sounded to end the half.

The Statesmen finished with a 15-11 edge in shots, including a 4-3 advantage in shots on goal. Hale (8-1) earned the victory in net for Hobart, making two saves, while Bennett (3-3-2) also had two stops for Rensselaer.

The Engineers return to action on Wednesday, when they host area-rival Union at Renwyck Field (7pm). The Statesmen visit Ithaca on Tuesday (7pm).
