TROY, N.Y. – Junior Peter Christman scored two second-half goals to lead the Williams College men's soccer team to a 2-0 victory over Rensselaer, this in non-league action at East Campus Stadium. With the win, the Ephs improve to 8-3-2 overall, while the Engineers drop to 6-5-4.
After a scoreless first-half in which Williams held a 7-2 edge in shots, Christman (Falmouth, MA) netted eventual game-winner in the 52nd minute. After an attempt at goal by junior Patrick Ebobisse (Bethesda, MD) was blocked to the top of the 18, Christman hammered a right-footed shot past RPI freshman goalkeeper
Rob Dewald (Arlington, VA/Washington-Lee).
The visitors made it 2-0 just over seven minutes later, when Ephs sophomore User Kushaina (Mutare, Zimbabwe) beat the Engineers defense to up the right flank and a low ball across the box. Christman slid in and buried his second marker of the contest from just outside the six.
The Engineers had an opportunity to score the game's first goal in the 19th minute, but junior
Adam Updegrove's (Carson City, NV/Carson) shot from the left side of the penalty area hit squarely off of the right post and out.
Williams finished with a 12-4 advantage in shots, including 6-1 on goal. Ephs junior goalie (Williamstown, MA) needed to make just one save to earn the shutout, while Dewald finished with three saves, before giving way to sophomore
Dylan Hasson (Cheshire, CT/Cheshire) in the 73rd minute.
Rensselaer returns to action on Wednesday, when it hosts Keene State, in a non-league affair at Renwyck Field (6:30pm). The Ephs visit Middlebury on Wednesday (2pm).
