Softball Takes Both Games of Day to Improve to 3-3

Engineers defeat Westfield State and Keene State by 8-3 scores

CLERMONT, Fla. – The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) softball team evened its season record at 3-3 with a pair of 8-3 wins on its Spring Break trip. The Engineers defeated Westfield State in the first game of the day and Keene State in the second. Westfield is now 2-3, while Keene falls to 4-2.

In RPI's opener, senior Jen Bach (Lansdale, PA / Gwynedd Mercy Academy) went 2 for 4 with a double, a home run, two runs batted in and a run scored to lead the offense. Junior catcher Sara Heller (Guilderland, NY / Guilderland) added a double, a triple, a run and an RBI.

Senior Felicia Bua (Gilford, NH / Gilford) earned the win, allowing three runs on three hits with four walks in 4.1 innings of work. Freshman Charlene Osmanski (Elmhurst, IL / York) pitched the final 2.2 innings, allowing just a walk.

For Westfield State, freshman Kalya LeMay (Shrewsbury, MA / Shrewsbury) started and took the loss, giving up six runs on six hits with three walks in 2.2 innings. Classmate Kerry Alcott (Groton, MA / Groton-Dunstable) threw 3.1 innings in relief.

In the second game for the Engineers, Bach pitched a complete game, allowing just two earned runs on five hits. She also stood out at the plate, going 2 for 4 with a pair of singles and an RBI. Osmanski chipped in with three hits in four at bats, including two singles, a double and four runs batted in.

Junior Emily Albin (Bethel, CT / Bethel) pitched 5.2 innings in defeat. She gave up four runs on four hits. Samantha Pratt (Bristol, CT / Kingswood Oxford), also a junior, pitched the final 1.1 innings for the Owls.
