ROCHESTER, N.Y. - The Rensselaer women's lacrosse team saw eight different players score, including six with multiple point efforts, as the Engineers defeated the University of Rochester, 14-4 in the Liberty League opener for both teams.  RPI, which was led by three goals from sophomore Marissa Page, moves to 6-0 on the season, while the Yellowjackets slip to 1-5.

The Engineers jumped onto the scoreboard first to get things going as junior Shannon Maguire tallied just 53 seconds into the game.  It was Maguire less than five minutes later that made it a 2-0 game as she connected on a feed from senior Laura Connor with 24:52 to play.  The homestanding Yellowjackets evened things up of the next six minutes as Bridget Hannon netted an unassisted goal at 24:11 and Keegan Kennedy made it 2-all off a pass from Kayleigh Hogan with just over 18 minutes to play.

Rensselaer responded as Page tallied back-to-back goals just over a minute apart and senior Madeline Sisson - the reigning Liberty League Offensive Player of the Week - sent a shot in past Rochester netminder Maddie Elia at 7:40 to take a 5-2 lead into halftime.

The Engineers continued to gain momentum to open the second stanza as sophomore Meg Colitz tallied less than two minutes in and classmate Rachel Scofield fired in a pair of goals in the following minutes to make it an 8-2 game.  Rochester got one back to close the gap to five (8-3) on a goal by Liza Maizel, but Rensselaer followed with three straight goals from Page, rookie Jamie Wakefield and Sisson for an 11-3 lead with 17:58 to play.

Maizel later made it an 11-4 game with a free position tally past RPI goalie Allie Arnal, but the Engineers countered in the final ten minutes as sophomore Michelle Denny scored and later assisted on the first of two straight goals by classmate Julia Wright for the final 14-4 margin.

In addition to Page, Maguire added two goals and two assists, while Sisson, Scofield and Wright each had two goals.  In the cage, Arnal moved to 6-0 with a nine save effort.

For Rochester, Maizel led the way with two goals.  Elia stopped five shots in the loss for the Yellowjackets.

Both team continue their league schedules on Saturday as Rochester hosts Skidmore, while Rensselaer heads to RIT for its first-ever meeting against the Tigers - the newest members of the Liberty League.  Both games are set to begin at 2pm.
