Jamie Wakefield scored a game-high six goals, while sophomore
Marissa Page added four more to lead the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) women's lacrosse team to a 19-9 victory over William Smith, this afternoon, in Liberty League action. With the win, the Engineers improve to 11-1 overall (5-1 Liberty), while the Herons drop to 5-6 (4-1 Liberty).

Rachel Scofield (Albany, NY/South Colonie) scored from the eight meter arc and Page (Schenectady, NY/Guilderland) netted her first of the day from close range.
Junior Kathleen Ragan (Topsfield, MA/Masconomet) cut the Herons deficit in half 3:31 in the contest, but the Engineers quickly answered as Wakefield buried back-to-back goals to make it 4-1. Sophomore
Meg Colitz (East Greenwich, RI/LaSalle Academy) earned the assist on Wakefield's first of the day.
After William Smith senior Rosie Scheibel (Auburn, NY/Auburn) brought the visitors to within 4-2, Rensselaer senior
Madeline Sisson (Rochester, NY/Our Lady of Mercy) netted back-to-back goals to make it a 6-2 game.
Herons' senior Lucy Johnson (Short Hills, NJ/Millburn) then scored three of the games next five goals – including two in the middle of three-goal William Smith run – the bring the visitors to within 7-6. RPI had the answer again, scoring three of the first half's final four tallies, including two more from Page, to make it 10-7 at the break.

Allie Arnal (Lakewood, NY/Phillips Exeter Academy) made a number of big first-half saves – six in all – the maintain the lead for the hosts. She finished the game with 11 stops, before being replaced by senior
Muryum Khalid (Avon, CT/Miss Porter's) with 5:53 left in regulation. Khalid stopped the only shot she faced.
The second half was all Engineers' as they scored nine of the 11 goals in the frame, including the last seven in the contest. After the Herons pulled to within 12-9 with 24:33 left in the second half, they were held scoreless for the remainder.
Aiding Rensselaer's two top scorers was Colitz who finished with three goals and an assist. Scofield and Sisson each delivered two goals and an assist. Pacing the Herons was Johnson and Scheibel, who had three goals apiece. Ragan chipped in with two.
Rensselaer is back in action next Friday, when it travels to Poughkeepsie for a league contest against Vassar (4pm). William Smith visits Ithaca on Tuesday (5pm) for a non-league game.
