WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. - Senior
Sara Heller and junior
Gillian McCarthy each homered to helped the Rensselaer softball team to a 10-2 win in game two after falling in game one, 4-3. With the split the Engineers move to 18-10 overall, while the Ephs are now 14-14.
Williams rode a four-run bottom of the first inning to victory in game one, as Emma Harrington picked up her 10th win of the season from the circle, tossing 7.0 innings while allowing three unearned runs on five hits. She struck out five, while walking just one.
RPI stole four bases in the contest, including two. by sophomore
Tori Hunt (Cheshire, MA/Hoosac Valley). She also went 1 for 3 with a run scored.
The Engineers broke out the bats in game two, plating two runs in the first, four in the second and four in the third.
After freshman
Jocilyn Rudisill (Galloway, NJ/Absegami) singled and stole second, Heller (Guilderland, NY/Guilderland) homered for the third time this season to make it 2-0. A sac fly in the bottom of the frame cut the Rensselaer lead in half (2-1).
In the four-run top of the second, Rudisill drove home sophomore
Dani Grage (Pittsford, NY/Pittsford Mendon) ahead of a McCarthy (Worthington, OH/Worthington) three-run shot that expanded the visitors' lead to 6-1.
Rudisill was involved in the scoring once again in the third, as her bases-clearing triple made it 9-1. Heller then capped the scoring for RPI, when she singled home Rudisill.
Freshman righthander
Kristina Weltzin (Commerce Town, MI/Walled Lake Northern) earned her 14th win of the season, allowing two runs on five hits over 5.0 innings.
The Engineers are back in action on Wednesday afternoon, when they host Middlebury at Doris Robison Field (3:30pm).
