Women's Tennis Falls to William Smith

Engineers move to 11-4 after 7-2 loss to the Herons

TROY, N.Y. – The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) women's tennis team saw its third doubles team win by an 8-5 margin, but the Engineers could not battle back, falling to William Smith College, 7-2 at Sharp Courts.  With the win, the Herons move to 13-3, while RPI is now 11-4 on the season.
 
RPI rookie Katrina Bohnhorst (Hellertown, PA/Saucon Valley) and junior captain Brianna Dickie (Acton, MA/Acton Regional) continued their outstanding season in the third flight of doubles, improving to 11-1 overall with an 8-5 victory this afternoon.
 
Both competed on the singles side with Dickie shouldering a tough loss, 4-6, 6-3, 6-4 in the fifth flight.  Rookie Casey Olsen (Glen Ridge, NJ/Glen Ridge) also had a strong outing at first singles, falling by a 7-6 (8-6), 6-4 margin.
 
Sophomore Christina Ciamarra (Southington, CT/Newtown) was the Engineers' only winner in singles action, posting a hard-fought 7-6 (7-4), 6-1 win in the second flight.  She is now 10-5 on the season in singles competition.

1. Joanie Hilton and Kiara Ocasio (WS) def. Olsen and Amanda Alexande:r 8-3
2. Katie Serock and Jess McCue (WS) def. Ciamarra and Lexi Rindone: 8-2
3. Bohnhorst and Dickie def. Remy Raevsky and Hallsey Leighton: 8-5.
 
Singles:
 
1. Casey Kennedy (WS) def. Olsen: 7-6(8-6), 6-4
2. Ciamarra (WS) def. Kiara Ocasio: 7-6(7-4), 6-1
3. Joanie Hilton (WS) def. Meghan Olson: 6-1, 6-1
4. Hallsey Leighton (WS) def. Amanda Alexander: 6-4, 6-3
5. Casey Nicoletti (WS) def. Brianna Dickie: 4-6, 6-3, 6-4
6. Haley Wolf (WS) def. Katrina Bohnhorst: 6-3, 6-4.
 
The Engineers now idle until May 1 when they host Union in the Liberty League and regular season finale at Sharp Courts at 4pm.  William Smith hosts Ithaca on Thursday at 4pm.
