TROY, N.Y. - Powered by a clean sweep in singles and doubles action, the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) women's tennis team defeated Union College, 9-0 in Liberty League action at Sharp Courts. The Engineers are now 12-4 on the season with a 3-3 conference mark, while the Dutchwomen slip to 6-8 and 1-4 in league play.
RPI's doubles teams made solid work of the Union pairs as the third flight team of
Brianna Dickie (Acton, MA/Acton-Boxborough Regional) and
Katrina Bohnhorst (Hellertown, PA/Saucon Valley) posted an 8-2 victory. That win moved the duo to 12-1 on the year with victories in each of the last ten matches. Also seeing success was the second flight team of
Christina Ciamarra (Southington, CT/Newtown) and
Lexi Rindone (Prescott, AZ/Prescott), which also won by an 8-2 score. They move to 13-3 on the season.
In singles action, sophomore
Meghan Olson (Rochester, NY/Penfield) posted a hard-fought win in the third flight, defeating Union's Dee Dee Gaudian by a 6-4, 6-7 (4-7), 1-0 (10-5) margin. Dickie also had a strong showing in the fifth flight posting a 7-6 (7-1), 6-3 victory over the Dutchwomen's Lauren Main.

The Engineers and the Dutchwomen will both be back in action this weekend, taking part in the 2012 Liberty League Tournament. The meet, which will be hosted by Vassar College, begins on Friday and runs through Sunday.
