Men's Soccer Beaten by Swarthmore, 2-0

TROY, N.Y. - Swarthmore College scored once in each half  and junior Peter Maxted stopped all eight shots he faced as the Garnet blanked Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) in a non-leageu men's soccer game at Renwyck Field.

Maxted (Port Washington, NY/Paul Schreiber) had four saves in the first half and four more in the second in helping the visitors improve to 3-0-0. The Engineers fall for the first time this season and are now 2-1-1.

The Garnet got its first goal on an own goal off a corner kick. Junior Jack Momeyer (New York, NY/UNIS) took the corner and sent the ball toward the goal, where it was nearly cleared out by a Rensselaer defender. However, the clearing attempt deflected off another RPI player and into the net at 17:20.

Swarthmore took a 2-0 lead at in the 48th minute (47:43) when a free kick of theirs deflected off Joe Keedy (Petoskey, MI/Petoskey) to Momeyer, who scored into the left side of the goal.

Rob Dewald (Arlington, VA/Washington-Lee) finished with three saves for the Engineers, who were even in shots with the Garnet, 12-12.

RPI returns to play on Tuesday at Oneonta for a 4:30pm contest. Swarthmore plays at Widener on Wednesday at 7pm.
