Cross Country Impresses at Oneonta Invite

ONEONTA, N.Y. - The Rensselaer men's cross country team had the top five finishers, led by sophomore Bobby Parker, and the Engineers won the Oneonta Airfield Invitational. The RPI women's team had the third and fourth place finishers and took second in their event.

Parker ran the 8k course at Fortin Park in a time of 26:03.1 to be the first to cross the line. His 5:15 per mile pace was seven seconds ahead of teammate Jacob Andrews, who was second with a time of 26:38.1. Freshman Benjamin Fazio was third (26:45.7), followed by Paul Malek (26:46.5) and Sean Quinn (26:47.6).

As a team, the Engineers had 15 points, which was well ahead of second place Oneonta (52 points). Nazareth had 101 points to finish third in the seven-team field.

The RPI women compiled 43 points in its 6k race, which was 12 behind the winner, Oneonta. Nazareth had 60 points to finish third of six teams. Oneonta senior Danielle Kennedy won the women's event with a time of 22:42.7 (6:06 mile).

For Rensselaer, junior Christine Artim was first on the team and third overall with a time of 22:58.9. She was followed immediately by teammate Hailey Beyer (23:11.1) with Emily Stickles was ninth overall with a time of 24:04.3.

Both the RPI women's and men's teams are now idle until October 26 when they compete in the New York State Meet at Hamilton College.
