LETCHWORTH STATE PARK, N.Y. - Senior Grace Tilton out-distanced the field of 255 by a 29 second margin with a time of 21:48.8 over the six-kilometer course to win the 33rd Annual Geneseo Cross Country Invitational at Letchworth State Park. Tilton ran the course in a 5:52 pace to capture the individual title and help the Engineers to eighth place in the 18-team field. The victory was her second of the season and fourth top 3 finish.
Geneseo compiled 55 points to out-distance runner-up Laurentian (Ont.) by 44 points, as well as Vassar (135), Rochester (154) and Hamilton (159), to clinch the eighth-consecutive team title and 19th overall since 1981. Rensselaer had 187 points, just two out of the seventh spot (Ithaca) and 10 from sixth (Ottawa).
Following Tilton for RPI was junior Hailey Beyer, who finished 30th at 23:12.5. Christine Artim, another junior, was third on the team and 34th with a time of 23:18.4, while sophomore Alexa Sakaforas crossed the line in 23:43.9. She was 50th overall. Emily Stickles, also a sophomore, was 72nd with a time of 24:14.8.
RPI is back on the course on next Saturday at the Oneonta Airfield Invitational, which kicks off at 11am.
