CLERMONT, Fla. - Sophomore Jocilyn Rudisill singled home the winning run in the bottom of the 8th inning to give the Rensselaer softball team a 2-1 victory over Keene State, this morning in non-conference action. The Engineers (2-4) then fell to Denison, 4-2, in game two of the day.

Keene St. broke a scoreless tie in the 4th inning, when Nicole Dupuis doubled in Meryl Ragiani. The Engineers answered with a run in the bottom of the sixth on sacrifice fly by senior Gillian McCarthy, which scored Rudisill from third base.

Still without a hit in the bottom of the 8th, RPI freshman Taylor Ten Eyck was advanced from second to third on a sacrifice bunt by senior Caitlin McGivern. After a lineout, Rudisill came through with the game-winning hit.

Owls starter Mariah Crisp took the tough-luck loss, surrendering two unearned runs on one hit. She struck out 10, with two walks. RPI sophomore Kristina Weltzin (1-2) gave up just the one run on one hit. Also notching 10 strikeouts, she walked five.

In game two, Denison put together a four-run fourth inning and RPI could not recover, scoring once in each of the 5th and 6th innings. Rudisill went 2 for 3 with walk, while sophomore Jena Servidone was 1 for 3 with an RBI.

From the circle, junior Charlene Osmanski took the loss, throwing 4.0 innings. She gave up two runs on four hits with three strikeouts. Freshman Victoria Hepworth came on in relief and surrendered a pair of runs on four hits. She struck out four without a walk.

The Engineers are back in action on Tuesday, when they take on Fairleigh Dickinson (1pm) and Stevenson (3pm).
