Engineers earn 12-2 victory over Keene State on Spring Trip

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – Seniors Shannon Maguire and Alissa Peterson each recorded two goals and an assist to lead the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) women's lacrosse team to a, 12-2, victory over Keene State at Lake Lytal Park. With the win, the Engineers improve to 2-0 on the season, while the Owls drop to 1-2.

RPI scored the game's first eight goals, including a pair from Peterson (Gaithersburg, MD/Quince Orchard). Freshman Mackenzie O'Neil (Duxbury, MA/Milton Academy) also tallied twice, including the first of her collegiate career.

Senior Lauren Brown (Agawam, MA/Agawam) got the Owls on the board late in the first half, but Rensselaer took a 10-1 lead into the break. The Engineers outshot Keen St. 12-5 in opening stanza, while also holding an 11-1 advantage in draw controls.

There were only three goals scored in the second half, including two by RPI. Maguire netted her second of the game and team-leading sixth of the season, while sophomore Lauren Miller (North Andover, MA/North Andover) scored for the first time this year to cap the scoring.

Keene St. saw Brown tally her second of the game and team-best eighth of the season.

Rensselaer senior netminder Allie Arnal (Lakewood, NY/Phillips Exeter Academy) allowed just two goals, while making four saves. Sophomore Erin Amarello (Griswold, CT/Bernard School) played the final 11:21 of the contest and did not face a shot on goal.

Rensselaer is back in action on Wednesday, when it takes on Ohio Wesleyan (5:30pm). Keene St. plays St. Lawrence on Wednesday (11am).
