CASTLETON, Vt. - Eight players recorded multiple goals as the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) women's lacrosse team defeated Castleton State College, 22-8, this afternoon in non-league action. With the win, the Engineers improve to 4-1 on the season, while the Spartans drop to 0-5.

The Engineers' 22 goals set a single-game school record, previously held by the 2001 squad, which scored 21 against Bridgwater State. It was also the fifth time Rensselaer has ever scored 20 or more goals in a game, including once earlier this season.

Meg Colitz (East Greenwich, RI/LaSalle Academy), Mackenzie O'Neil (Duxbury, MA/Milton Academy), and Alissa Peterson (Gaithersburg, MD/Quince Orchard) paced RPI with three goals apiece. Shannon Maguire (Randolph, NJ/Randoph) chipped in with two goals and three assists for a game-high five points.

For Castleton, Amanda Flodstrom notched three goals, pushing her season total to a team-high eight. Sarah Clark, Mariah Lesure, Cori Healy, Blake Wardwell, and Bri MacKay each notched one goal in the loss.

RPI jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first five minutes before Castleton got on the scoreboard with a goal from Flodstrom 8:19 into the game. The Engineers notched two more before Blake Wardwell snagged a pass from Sarah Clark and netted it for the goal, cutting the Spartans deficit to 4-2.

Peterson scored back-to-back goals for the Engineers putting the squad up 6-2. Sarah Clark responded with a tally for the Spartans to cut the lead to three goals. The Engineers ended the half on a 4-1 run to make the score at the break 10-4.

In the second half, Castleton traded goals with the Engineers through the first four minutes with each team notching two. A goal by Maguire with 25:16 remaining triggered a 9-1 run for RPI over the next 18 minutes, putting the Spartans in a 21-7 hole. Each team would score in the final six minutes to make the final 22-8.

Meghan Els took the loss for the Spartans in goal, splitting time with Lily Derbyshire. The pair combined for nine saves. Allie Arnal (Lakewood, NY/Phillips Exeter Academy) got the win for the Engineers, making seven saves before being relieved Erin Amarello (Griswold, CT/St. Bernard School).

Rensselaer is idle this weekend, but returns to action on March 29 and 30, when it visits St. Lawrence (4pm) and Clarkson (2pm), respectively.
