TROY, N.Y. – Sophomore Erin Riley recorded a game-high six points to lead the 18th-ranked Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) women's lacrosse team to an, 18-6, victory over the University of Rochester, this afternoon on Senior Day at Renwyck Field. With the win, the Engineers improve to 11-2 (7-0 Liberty League), while the Yellowjackets drop to 2-11 (1-6 Liberty League).

Rochester came out swinging in the early going taking four separate leads, including a 4-3 advantage with 16:25 left in the first half. Freshman Stephanie Ortell (Ellicott City, MD/Marriotts Ridge) picked up her ninth and 10th goals of the year over the stretch.

The Engineers then ran off eight straight goals to take control of the contest. Seven of those tallies came in the first half, including three by Riley, who also had a first half assist. RPI took a 10-4 lead into the intermission, while also holding a 23-8 advantage in shots and a 9-4 edge in ground balls.

Riley netted her fifth goal of the game and 25th of the season to start the second half. The Yellowjackets struck back on a tally freshman Brittany Garrison (Jenkintown, PA/Abington Friends School), which was her second of the season. Senior Liza Maizel (New Milford, CT/New Milford) earned the helper.

A six-goal spurt by Rensselaer made it a 17-5 game, with 10:31 remaining in the game. Six different players scored during the run, including senior captain Shannon Maguire (Randolph, NJ/Randoph), who notched her 27th of the year.

Rochester freshman Brittany Stalzer (Oak Park, CA/Oak Park) put a halt to the run with her third of the season, before Maguire capped the scoring, just prior to the final horn.

RPI senior netminder Allie Arnal (Lakewood, NY/Phillips Exeter Academy) made three saves in 45:16 to improve to 11-2, before being replaced by sophomore Erin Amarello (Griswold, CT/St. Bernard School), who stopped two of the three shots she faced.

In goal for Rochester was freshman Marissa Traina (Hillsborough, NJ/Hillsborough) who made seven saves.

The Engineers are back in action next weekend, when they visit William Smith and Union, on Friday (4pm) and Saturday (2pm), respectively.
