TROY, N.Y. – Freshman
Morgan Ten Eyck hit her first collegiate home run as the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) softball team earned two come-from-behind victories to sweep Oneonta State, this afternoon at Doris Robison Field. With win of 7-2 and 6-4, the Engineers improve to 16-6 overall, while the Red Dragons drop to 7-15.
The visitors struck first in game one, as sophomore Nicole Marzillo (Bay Shore, NY/Bay Shore) hit her second home run of the season with a runner on in the top of the second inning. The lead was short-lived as Rensselaer answered with a four-run bottom of the frame.

Jena Servidone (East Greenbush, NY/Columbia) reached on an infield single. Following another single by freshman
Taylor Ten Eyck (Guilderland, NY/Guilderland),
Morgan Ten Eyck (Guilderland, NY/Guilderland) reached on a fielder's choice as junior
Dani Grage (Pittsford, NY/Pittsford) was cut down on a force play at the plate.
Junior
Tori Hunt (Cheshire, MA/Hoosac Valley) then drew a bases-loaded walk for RPI's first run of the game. Senior
Caitlin McGivern (Bethlehem, PA/Notre Dame) delivered a two-run single to give the Engineers the lead, before classmate
Aimee Konet (Houston, TX/Friendswood) drove in a fourth run with a base-hit to center.
A sacrifice fly by Grage and an RBI-single from Servidone made it 6-2 Rensselaer after five.
Taylor Ten Eyck then capped the scoring in the contest with a single down the rightfield line, platting senior
Gillian McCarthy (Worthington, OH/Thomas Worthington).
Sophomore righthander
Kristina Weltzin (Commerce Town, MI/Walled Laked Northern) improved to 9-3 from the circle, allowing two runs on three hits in 7.0 innings. She struck out eight, while walking three.
Game two saw Oneonta State score a first inning run on an RBI-groundout from senior Kalyn Deso (Schenectady, NY/South Colonie).
Once the again the Engineers stormed back, this time scoring five runs in the bottom of the third.
Morgan Ten Eyck homered to deep left with a runner aboard to make it 2-1 RPI. Hunt followed that up with a home run – her second the season – in the ensuing at bat for a two-run cushion (3-1). A Red Dragons error then allowed two more runs to come across, followed by another run-scoring base hit from
Morgan Ten Eyck.
Oneonta State picked up a run in the sixth and two more in the seventh before Weltzin came on to earn her second career save. Sophomore centerfielder
Kathleen Baker (Airmont, NY/Suffern) made a terrific running catch in the gap to the leave the Red Dragons' rally with the bases loaded.
RPI freshman lefthander
Victoria Hepworth (Chester, MA/Holyoke) picked up her third victory (3-1) of the season, surrendering two runs on seven hits in 6.0 innings.
The Engineers are back on the diamond this Sunday, when they visit area and Liberty League-rival Union College (1pm).
