NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Yale University scored late goals in all three periods, including an empty net goal in the third period, and the Bulldogs defeated the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) men's hockey team, 5-2, in an ECAC Hockey game. The loss drops the Engineers to 6-10-1 overall and 4-3-0 in the league. The Bulldogs improve to 6-2-2 and 4-2-1.

After more than 18 minutes of scoreless hockey, Yale took the lead with a Tommy Fallen goal at 18:45 of the first period. Carson Cooper doubled the advantage at 6:35 of the second before Rensselaer sophomore Jake Wood scored his first goal of the season at 15:55. Matt Neal and Riley Bourbonnais, who is now tied for the team lead in points with eight (4 goals, 4 assists) had the assists. However, the Bulldogs once again gained a two-goal advantage, this time when Ryan Hitchcock tallied the eventual game-winner at 18:13 of the middle frame.

Junior Milos Bubela cut RPI's deficit to one goal when he scored on the power play with assists from Jacob Laliberte and Phil Hampton, but Yale needed only 50 seconds to make it a two-goal game again. Charles Orzetti scored his first of the year at 11:49. Cody Learned, who assisted on Orzetti's goal, finished the scoring with an empty net marker with 1:06 to play in the third period.

Alex Lyon earned the win in net as he made 22 saves, including 11 in the third period, for the Bulldogs. Scott Diebold stopped 26 shots for Rensselaer.

The Engineers travel to Providence, R.I., for a league matinee at Brown University on Satuday. Yale hosts Union College on Saturday at 7pm.
