PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Junior goaltender Scott Diebold stopped all 34 shots he faced to lead the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) men's hockey team to a 3-0 victory over Brown University, this evening at Meehan Auditorium. With the win, the Engineers improve to 14-13-6 (8-8-5 ECAC Hockey), while the Bears fall to 11-14-3 (8-12-1 ECAC Hockey).

Rensselaer junior Jacob Laliberte (Rockland, ON/Cornwall Colts) broke a scoreless tie at 5:45 of the third period, turning home the rebound of a shot by classmate Curtis Leonard (Napanee, ON/Wellington Dukes) for his sixth goal of the season. Senior Guy Leboeuf (West Palm Beach, FL/Oakville Blades) moved the puck from the left point to Leonard at the right. Leonard's shot deflected to Laliberte, who stuck it past Brown freshman netminder Tyler Steel (Vernon, BC/Merritt Centennials) for the tally.

Sophomore Mark Miller (Massena, NY/Omaha Lancers) netted his third of the year at 10:58 of the frame, to make it 2-0. Skating into the zone, Miller fired the puck home from to the top of the left circle. Senior Bo Dolan (St. Paul, MN/Penticton Vees) laid claim to the lone helper.

The Engineers made it 3-0 with an empty-net goal at 18:36 of the third, when junior Zach Schroeder (Prior Lake, MN/Saint Thomas Academy) picked up a loose puck in the neutral zone and walked into the Bears' zone untouched, for his first of the season.

Diebold (Buffalo, NY/Tri-City Storm) seemed to improve as the game went along, making 10 stops in the second period and 17 in the third to improve to 13-12-6. Steel finished with 27 saves at the other end of the ice.

A back and forth first two periods saw RPI come away with a slight 18-17 edge in shots. The Bears turned in the best scoring chance in the second period, when sophomore Nick Lappin (Geneva, IL) ripped a slap shot off the right post.

The Engineers are back in action tomorrow night, when they travel to 15th-ranked Yale University (7pm) to close out the regular season. Browns hosts third-ranked Union College tomorrow (7pm).
