Three Headed to NCAA Championships
TROY, N.Y. - The Liberty League weekly track & field awards were handed out and
Bobby Parker was named the Men's Track Performer of the Week, while teammate
Zac Borrelli earned the Men's Field Performer of the Week award. Also recognized was Ivy Muchuma, who was selected to the Women's Track & Field Honor Roll.
At the ECAC Championship Meet, Parker (Johnston, RI / St. Raphael) finished third of 27 competitors in the 3000 meter run with a time of 8:33.83. He also he ran the anchor leg on Rensselaer's victorious distance medley relay team, which posted a time of 10:15.84 to defeat 15 other schools. The sophomore helped the Engineers finish ninth of 62 schools with 24 points.
Borrelli (Methuen, MA / Central Catholic) contributed to the team's finish by placing fifth of 30 competitors in the shot put with a distance of 15.51 meters and eighth of 21 in the weight throw with a toss of 16.54 meters. This is the second consecutive, and third overall, weekly award for Borrelli, a senior.
Also a senior, Muchuma (Nashua, NH / Nashua North) earned honor roll recognition by finishing third of 30 competitors in the weight throw with a distance of 17.18 meters. She was also 10th of 30 in the shot put with a toss of 11.60 meters. As a team, the Engineers were 16 of 62 schools with 18 points.
Muchuma will compete in the NCAA Championships in the weight throw this Friday. She will be joined by teammates Lydia Frangos (weight throw) and Grace Tilton (mile).
