TROY, N.Y. - Four Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) student-athletes have been chosen to the 2013-14 Capital One Academic All-District Men's Track & Field/Cross Country Team. Jacob Andrews, Zac Borrelli, Joe Livote and David McWilliams were among the 10 selected from District 3 and are now eligible for Capital One National Academic All-America consideration.

A junior, Andrews (New Woodstock, NY / Fabius-Pompey) participates in both cross country and track & field. In the fall he helped the Engineers to a pair of victories as well as runner-up finishes at the New York State Championship and the Liberty League Championship. Individually, his highest finish came in the 10th Annual SUNY Oneonta Airfield Invitational, which RPI won, when he was second with a time of 26:38.1 over the 8k course. Andrews finished seventh in the state meet the following week (26:44.5), second in the league meet (25:44.0) and 22nd in the NCAA Atlantic Regional (25:38.1). He was an All-League Second Team selection and an All-Region honoree. In track, he qualified for the ECAC Indoor Championship in the 5000 meters and won the 10000 meters (31:57.15) at the Liberty League Outdoor Championship, which the Engineers won for the fourth straight season.

Andrews, a chemical engineering major with a cumulative grade point average of 3.52, is a member of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), serving on the board, as well as an RA (resident advisor) and a student orientation advisor. He is also president and co-founder of weR: The Spirit of Rensselaer Society and he has interned with Inficon Chemical Engineering.

Borrelli (Methuen, MA / Central Catholic) is a senior environmental engineering major with minors in psychology and music. He has a 3.57 GPA and is currently doing research at Rensselaer while pursuing a Master's in the Earth and Environmental Science Department. He has also held an internship with InVisage Technologies, Inc., conducting experiments on camera chips.

A thrower, Borrelli was the Liberty League Field Performer of the Week eight times this season. His top performances during the indoor season included wins in both the shot put (14.77 meters) and weight throw (15.99) at the Bowdoin January Invitational and wins in the shot put at both the Liberty League Championship (14.95) and New York State Championship (15.10). He also set a personal best of 16.54 meters in the weight throw at the ECAC Championship. During the outdoor season, Borrelli won the shot put at four meets, the hammer at two and the discus at two. He was in the top three in those events a total of 16 times, including wins in all three at the Liberty League Meet. He won the shot with a throw of 15.08 meters, the hammer at 53.44 and the discus at 46.29 to earn the Liberty League Field Event Athlete of the Meet. He was also the New York State Championship Field Performer of the Year after posting three top-4 finishes. Borrelli was first in the shot (15.35), second in the discus (44.52) and fourth in the hammer (49.36) in leading RPI to its sixth straight state title.

Also a senior, Livote (Kings Park, NY / Kings Park) ran on the indoor and outdoor teams. His events include 800 meters, 1000 meters, 1500 meters, the mile and 3000 steeplechase as well as numerous relays. Among his top performances was second in the 800 (2:02.50) at Bowdoin in January and second in the 1000 (2:41.04) at the Springfield College Indoor Track & Field Meet two weeks later. He was also second in the 3000 steeple (10:34.59) at the Upstate Track and Field Classic in April and third in the same event at the league meet (10:09.51) later that month.

Livote is a nuclear and mechanical engineering major with a 3.70 grade point average. He was a member of Sigma Phi Epsilon – New York Delta, serving as chapter president in 2012 and social chair in 2014. He also had a cooperative opportunity with General Electric Power and Water as well as GE - Hitachi Nuclear Energy.

McWilliams (West Harwich, MA / Harwich) is a senior aeronautical engineering major with a 3.97 GPA. He is active outside of athletics with Order of Omega, national Greek Honor Society, and Ensemble Congeros, an Afro-Cuban/New World percussion ensemble. He has interned with The Boeing Company, conducting ground and flight testing, and NASA Dryden Flight Research Center, where he was part of a structural dynamics group. McWilliams, who is already working towards a Master's degree, also interned at GE Aviation in manufacturing operations to produce jet engine combustors.

As a thrower, he had two top-5 finishes in the indoor weight throw and nine top-5 finishes outdoors while setting two personal records. He won the hammer throw at the New York State Outdoor Championship with a PR of 55.16 meters. He also established his college best in the weight throw with a toss of 14.64 meters at the NYS Indoor Championship. McWilliams also threw the javelin for the Engineers, placing as high as fourth at the Upstate Track & Field Classic (48.10 meters). His season best throw with the javelin was 48.58 meters, which took place at the state meet.
