TROY, N.Y. – Sophomore Laurel Pascal scored a team-best three goal to lead the third-ranked Middlebury College women's lacrosse team to an, 11-8, victory over 20th-ranked Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI), this afternoon at Renwyck Field. With the win, the Panthers improve to 4-0 on the season, while the Engineers drop to 1-3.

Pascal (Greenwich, CT/Taft) score two goals late in the first half to give the visitors a 6-5 lead at the break. Her go-ahead goal with 4:58 remaining in the opening stanza came from a free-position attempt.

Rensselaer senior Marissa Page (Schenectady, NY/Guilderland) tied the game at 6-6, just 45 seconds into the second half, off a feed from junior Erin Riley (West Nyack, NY/Clarkstown South), but Middlebury answered with a three-goal run – including a pair of tallies by senior Liza Herzog (Baltimore, MD/Friends School) – to take a 9-6 lead.

Senior Rachel Scofield (Albany, NY/Colonie) netted her fifth of the season with 11:48 to play, bringing the hosts to within 9-7, but the Panthers fought back with two straight to all but put the game out of reach.

The Engineers netted the game's final goal, as senior captain Meg Colitz (East Greenwich, RI/LaSalle Academy) scored her second of the game and third of the year, off an assist from Riley.

Page led Rensselaer with three goals, while classmates Colitz and Michelle Denny (Lusby, MD/Patuxent) had two apiece. Aiding Pascal offensively for Middlebury, was Herzog, who had two goals and an assist. Sophomore Chrissy Ritter (Middlebury, VT/Middlebury Union) chipped in with a pair of markers.

In goal, senior Alyssa Palomba (Shrewsbury, MA/Suffield Academy) made four saves for Middlebury to improve to 4-0, while junior captain Erin Amarello (Griswold, CT/St. Bernard School) stopped seven shots for the Engineers.

RPI is back in action next Tuesday, when it visits Babson College for a non-league game (5pm). The Panthers host Bowdoin on Saturday (10:30am).
