Box Score ROCHESTER, NY- Senior captain
Meg Colitz scored eight goals, seven in the second half to lift the Rensselaer women's lacrosse team to a 12-4 victory over the University of Rochester on Saturday afternoon. Colitz scored RPI's last eight goals of the game and was the only scorer in the second half of the game as the visiting Engineers (8-3, 6-0 Liberty League) shutout UR 7-0 in the final 30 minutes of the contest.
Rochester (5-5, 1-4 Liberty League) did a great job hanging with the preseason favorite in the Liberty League in the first half, heading to the break trailing only by one 5-4. Freshmen Danielle Diacovo and Breanna Taylor both scored in the final minute of the half, giving Rochester all the momentum heading into halftime.
The Engineers would strike with the games first score, coming 2:30 in from junior
Erin Riley. Rochester would respond with a score from Lauren Basil 5:30 later.
RPI would then grab a 3-1 lead after
Jamie Wakefield and Riley found the net past Prosak with about eight minutes left in the half, but UR's Brittany Garrison stopped the run with her third goal of the year with five minutes remaining on the clock in the half.
Riley would get a hat trick for RPI with 4:06 on the clock and Colitz would score a minute later, building the Engineer lead to 5-3 before Diacovo scored from the free-position and Taylor added her goal with under 10 seconds to play in the half.
Colitz then took over the game in the second half, scoring seven times, twice in the first minute to boost the Engineers to the victory.
Overall, Prosak made seven saves in the loss for Rochester while
Erin Amarello made eight stops in goal for the Engineers. Heather MacLauchla made one save for RPI while playing the final 3:16 in net.
The Yellowjackets continue their Liberty League conference schedule next Friday against William Smith College. RPI's next game is a home contest against Williams College on Wednesday.
