Box Score TROY, N.Y. -- Rebecca McGovern recorded four goals to lead ninth-ranked Williams to a 13-6 win over Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) on Wednesday evening in non-conference women's lacrosse action at Renwyck Field. With the loss, RPI drops to 8-4 overall, while Williams improves to 12-1 on the season.
The Ephs scored first, less than a minute into play, as McGovern (Weymouth, MA / Thayer Academy) recorded her first of the game. The Engineers tied the game at 1-1 on a goal by
Erin Riley (West Nyack, NY / Clarkstown South) at 21:34, with an assist from
Erin DeLucca (East Lyme, CT / East Lyme). After an unassisted tally by Williams' Stephanie Gallo (Manhasset, NY / Manhasset), the Engineers got back-to-back goals from
Marissa Page (Schenectady, NY / Guilderland) to take a 3-2 lead with 15:49 to play in the first half. The Ephs tied it up a minute later, and regained the lead on a free position shot by McGovern at 12:54. RPI answered with just over nine minutes left to play on an unassisted goal by
Rachel Scofield (Albany, NY / Colonie) to tie the game at 4-all.
However, Williams would close out the first half with four straight goals, including two by Nancy Palmer (Lakeville, CT / Hotchkiss School), to set the score at 8-4 at the halftime break.
Jamie Wakefield (Windsor, CT / Windsor) would score for the Engineers just over a minute into play in the second, but McGovern scored her final goal of the gamewith 21:21 to play to increase the Williams lead to 9-5. Riley tallied her second goal for RPI with 20:32 left to play, wrapping up the scoring for the Engineers in the game. The Ephs ended the second half just like the first, scoring four consecutive goals to end the game to set the final score.
Williams outshot Rensselaer, 29-13, in the game, and also held a 10-8 advantage in groundballs.
Erin Amarello (Griswold, CT / St. Bernard School) made seven saves in goal for the Engineers, while Ephs goalkeeper Ali Piltch (Bryn Mawr, PA / Shipley School) also stopped seven opposing shots.
Rensselaer will return to action on Saturday, visiting Skidmore in Liberty League action at 4 p.m.
