TROY, N.Y. – Freshman righthander Stephanie Caudle threw her second straight complete game to lead the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) softball team to a, 5-2, victory over the University of Rochester in game two of a Liberty League doubleheader at Doris Robison Field. The Engineers, who dropped game one, 10-1, move to 14-10 overall (4-2 Liberty), while the Yellowjackets are now 14-8 (7-1 Liberty).

Caudle (Gainsville, FL/Gainsville) allowed just two runs (1 earned) on seven hits in 7.0 innings, striking out four without a walk. With the win, she improves to 2-1 on the season.

Rochester struck first in the nightcap, scoring a pair of runs in the top of the first inning. Sophomore Lauren Muni (Clarence, NY/Clarence) highlighted the frame with an RBI-double to left.

The Engineers answered with a four-run bottom of the inning that chased Yellowjackets starter Sarah Wayson (Owego, NY/Tioga Central) after just one out was recorded. Junior Jena Servidone (East Greenbush, NY/Columbia) got the scoring started with a run-scoring single to center. After a Rochester error, Caudle and junior Jocilyn Rudisill (Galloway, NJ/Absegami) came through with back-to-back RBI-hits to make it 4-2.

RPI then loaded the bases with one out in the bottom of the third, but a force out at the plate and a groundout ended the threat with a run scoring.

Caudle held the Yellowjackets at bay through the middle innings, not allowing a base-runner past second after the first inning.

In the home half of the fifth, Rensselaer manufactured an insurance run after Caudle led off the inning with a walk. Rudisill sacrificed her to second, before an opposite field single by Dani Grage (Pittsford, NY/Pittsford Mendon) put runners on first and third with one away. Following a Rochester error, sophomore Danielle Balestrini (Lake Placid, NY/Lake Placid) reached a fielder's choice that brought home a run on another error.

Senior Nina Korn (Rochester, NY/Greece Athena) doubled with two outs in the seventh, but Caudle was able to get Brittany Grage (Pittsford, NY/Pittsford Mendon) to pop up to end the game.

Game one saw the Yellowjackets jump out to a 5-0 lead after one inning. Muni capped the rally with a three-run home run over the fence in left center.

Rochester then plated four runs in the fourth to take a 9-0 advantage. Freshman Eleni Wechsler (Warwick, NY/Warwick Valley) provided the big hit in the inning, lining a bases-clearing double to the gap in left.

Following an RBI-single from senior Meghan Hennessey (Hamburg, NY/Immaculata Academy) in the top of the seventh, RPI got on the board in the bottom half, scoring on an infield groundout from freshman Morgan Kollmeier (Kennett Square, PA/Kennett).

Grage improved to 7-4 with the complete game victory. She allowed a run on five hits in 5.0 innings, striking out three, while walking one.

The Engineers are back in action tomorrow afternoon, when they host Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) for two at 1pm. Rochester visits Union tomorrow for a doubleheader (1pm).
