Box Score TROY, N.Y. – Senior
Meg Colitz matched a career-high with nine points to lead the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) women's lacrosse team to an, 18-4, victory over St. Lawrence University, this afternoon at Renwyck Field. With the win, the Engineers improve to 10-4 overall (8-0 Liberty League), while the Saints drop to 6-8 (4-4 Liberty League).
RPI scored early and often, opening up a 7-0 lead with 14:10 remaining in the first half. Colitz (East Greenwich, RI/LaSalle Academy) netted the middle three goals in the scoring run, while assisting on two more.
The Saints broke onto the board at 27:57 of the first half, on a pass attempt from sophomore Chloe Knapp (Glens Falls, NY/Glens Falls) that found its way through traffic and past Rensselaer junior goaltender
Erin Amarello (Griswold, CT/St. Bernard School) to make it 7-1.
With 5.9 seconds left in the first half, a foul at the SLU restraining line stopped play. RPI freshman
Sophie Hager (Northport, NY/Northport) was able to find junior
Jamie Wakefield (Windsor, CT/Windsor) on the doorstep with a quick feed and a goal with less than a second left on the clock. The tally, Wakefield's 21st of the season, gave the hosts an 8-1 lead at the break.
Junior
Erin Masucci (Windham, NH/Central Catholic) buried her third of the game and sixth of the season to open the second half. Wakefield then made it 10-1 Engineers 23:09 to play.
St. Lawrence freshman Kiera Taussig (Larchmont, NY/Mamaroneck) then drew the visitors to within 10-2 with her 16th goal of the year.
After senior
Michelle Denny (Lusby, MD/Patuxent) and junior
Erin Riley (West Nyack, NY/Clarkstown South) gave RPI a 12-2 advantage, Taussig and classmate Kara Hurley (Plymouth, MA/Plymouth South) answered immediately with goals of their own.
Rensselaer scored the final six goals of the contest, including three more from Colitz. Sophomore
Sara Bischof (Amherst, NY/Amherst Central) capped the scoring in the game with her second of the year.
Senior
Rachel Scofield (Albany, NY/Colonie) claimed a game-high five ground balls for the Engineers, while Riley chipped in with two ground balls, five draw controls and four caused turnovers.
Amarello (10-4) made two saves and allowed three goals in 42:21, while sophomore
Heather MacLauchlan (Somers, CT/Somers) stopped three of the four shots she faced in relief. Saints junior Adden Cunningham (Pittsford, NY/Our Lady of Mercy) made eight saves in defeat.
The Engineers return to action tomorrow afternoon, when they close out the regular season against Clarkson on Renwyck Field (2pm). St. Lawrence travels to Skidmore tomorrow (3pm).
