Softball Swept in Non-Conference Doubleheader at Ithaca

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Ithaca, N.Y. -- The Renssealaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) softball team was swept in a non-conference doubleheader at Ithaca on Monday afternoon. The Bombers posted a winning score of 3-0 over the Engineers in the first game, while the second game ended in with a walk-off single in the bottom of the ninth, giving Ithaca a 7-6 victory.

Ithaca's Julianne Vincent was responsible for all three of the Bombers' runs in the first game. She doubled into left center in the bottom of the first to drive in Francesa Busa. In the third, Vincent crossed home plate on an RPI double by Casey Gavin. Vincent later scored in the fifth as RPI's Kristina Weltzin issued a bases-loaded walk.  

RPI recorded five hits in game one. Weltzen struck out five opposing batters, while allowing just three hits. 

The Engineers scored first in game two to take an early lead, as Morgan Ten Eyck came home on an RBI single to left by Morgan Kollmeier in the top of the second inning. Ithaca scored twice in the bottom of the frame, and tacked on two runs in both the third and forth innings. RPI cut the deficit to 6-3 with two runs in the fifth. Tori Hunt scored on an error before Jena Servidone came home on a single into left by Ten Eyck. 

Rensselaer then tied the game at 6-6 in the top of the sixth. Stephanie Cauldle scored on a bases-loaded walk by Ithaca's Laura Quicker before Kathleen Baker added another run on an RBI single by Hunt. A sac fly by Servidone sent Danielle Balestrini home for the game-tying run. 

An RBI single by Busa scored Nina Lindberg in the bottom of the ninth to give Ithaca the win. 

Caudle picked up the loss in the game, going six and a third innings in the circle, issuing four strikeouts. Allison Macari earned the win after two innings in relief for Ithaca.

Rensselaer will return to action on Tuesday, visiting Williams in a non-conference doubleheader starting at 3:30 p.m.
