PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) freshman-to-be Michael Prapavessis has been drafted by the Dallas Stars in the fourth round, 105th overall, of the 2014 National Hockey League Entry Draft. Also chosen was recruit Alec Dillon, a goaltender who was selected by the Los Angeles Kings in the fifth round.

"Mike is a very talented young man, who helped Toronto Lakeshore win the OJHL championship and play in the Royal Bank Cup last year," said RPI head coach Seth Appert. "He's a really smart player and as talented as he is, he's an even better person from a great family."

Prapavessis, a defenseman from Oakville, Ont., played in 47 games for the Patriots of the OJHL last season, registering five goals and 49 assists for 54 points. He led all blue-liners in scoring and was second overall in helpers, while notching 26 points on the power-player. He was also assessed just one minor penalty for two minutes.

Michael is the second RPI player to be taken by Dallas, joining Mike Bergin '11, who was taken in the 7th round (209th overall) in 2008. He is also the eighth player taken in the fourth round and the highest since Brandon Pirri was drafted in the 2nd round (59th overall) in 2009.

Fellow freshman Louis Nanne, who is from Edina, Minn., was taken in the 7th round (188th overall) in the 2012 draft by the Minnesota Wild. A forward, he notched 10 points on five goals and five assists for the Sioux Falls Stampede during the 2013-14 season. He was assessed six penalties for 12 minutes.

Dillon, who is 6-5, 170 pounds, was taken 150th overall. He played last season with Victoria in the British Columbia Hockey League, going 8-4-2 with a 2.88 goals against average and a .911 save percentage.

Rensselaer has seen three goaltenders drafted in the last seven years, including Allen York (Columbus in '07), Jason Kasdorf (Winnipeg in '11) and Dillon.

There have now been 60 Engineers selected all-time by National Hockey League teams.
