Engineers face Broncos on Friday at 4pm

NON-LEAGUE JAUNT: The Engineers continue their four-game non-league trek on Friday, when they travel to South Bend, Ind. and Notre Dame for the Shillelagh Tournament ... Rensselaer takes on Western Michigan on Friday (4:05pm) and either Harvard or the host Irish on Saturday (4:05pm or 7:35pm).

ENGINEERS OUTLAST UNH: After seeing its 3-0 lead evaporate, RPI got a late third period goal from freshman Alex Rodriguez to beat New Hampshire, 4-3, on Tuesday night at the Houston Field House ... Rodriguez tipped home a shot from senior Travis Fulton for the eventual game-winner with 4:01 to play ... Senior Jake Wood, sophomore Drew Melanson and junior Riley Bourbonnais also had goals for the Engineers, while freshman netminder Cam Hackett had 35 saves. 

RPI HOLDS OFF BENTLEY: The Engineers scored the first three goals before the Falcons pulled two back in a 3-2 on Friday ... Sophomore Lou Nanne and senior Mark Miller gave the visitors a 2-0 lead after one period, with sophomore Drew Melanson picking up an assist on each ... Classmate Mike Prapavessis then netted his first goal of the season, midway through the second period, to give RPI a 3-0 lead ... The Falcons drew to within 3-1 late in the second, before junior Max French made it 3-2, early in the third ... Cam Hackett made 13 saves in the second and 11 in the third to help preserve the win ... He finished with 31 total stops, including seven on the penalty kill.

POINTS LEADERS: Junior Riley Bourbonnais has seven goals and four assists for a team-high 11 points in 12 games ... Sophomore Lou Nanne (3 goals, 5 assists) and junior Jake Wood (4 goals, 4 assists) have eight points, while three Engineers have seven, including junior Parker Reno, who has a team-best seven assists.

BETWEEN THE PIPES: Senior Jason Kasdorf has started eight of the team's 13 games this season and is 3-4-0 with a 2.46 goals against average and a .927 save percentage ... Freshman Cam Hackett (4-0-2) has factored into the last five decisions (5 starts) and carries a 2.58 goals against average and a .929 save percentage.

HACKETT HONORED BY LEAGUE: ECAC Hockey announced its weekly award winners for November 17 and freshman Cam Hackett was named Rookie of the Week ... He went 1-0-1 with a 2.35 goals against average and a .933 save percentage ... Totaling 70 saves, including a career-high 41 in the RPI's 3-2 overtime victory over then-No. 10 Yale on Friday night, he also made 29 stops in a 3-3 tie with Brown on Saturday.

SPECIAL TEAMS: The Engineers have started the season at 14.0% (6 for 43) on the power play ...The penalty kill has opened at 83.6% (51 for 61).

IN THE FACE-OFF CIRCLE: The Engineers have won face-offs at a 44.7% clip over the first 13 games ... Senior Mark Miller and junior Riley Bourbonnais are tied at 48.1%, which leads the team ... Senior Milos Bubela is third at 47.2%.

SHORTHANDED LEADERS: Rensselaer's three shorthanded goals are third most in the country, trailing Nebraska-Omaha (5) and Penn State (4) ... Senior Milos Bubela is tied for the nation's individual lead with Robert Morris senior Zac Lynch, St. Cloud State sophomore Judd Peterson and Nebraska-Omaha juniors Jake Guentzel and Justin Parizek ... All five players have two shorthanded goals.

FRIDAY'S OFFICIALS: The referees for Friday afternoon's game against Western Michigan will be Brian Hill and Jamie Koharski ... The linesmen will be Jeremy Lewis and Brent Gawlik.

BOURBONNAIS REBOUNDS: RPI junior Riley Bourbonnais, who saw his six-game point streak end at Bentley last Friday, picked up a goal against New Hampshire on Tuesday ... Since October 30, he has four goals and four assists for eight points in eight games ... Collecting a team-best 26 shots, he is also a +6 over that stretch.

GIVING UP THE BODY: The Engineers have blocked 197 shots through 13 games, including a team-high 34 from senior captain Chris Bradley ... Sophomore defenseman Mike Prapavessis has 28, while junior Riley Bourbonnais has gotten in front of 18 attempts from the opposition, which the most among RPI forwards.

AMONG THE NATIONAL LEADERS: RPI senior Chris Bradley is second in the nation in blocked shots with 34 ... Junior blueliner Parker Reno ranks 17th nationally in plus/minus at +11 ... Senior Milos Bubela and junior Riley Bourbonnais are tied for seventh with 10 penalties each.

UNBEATEN STREAKS: The Engineers eight-game unbeaten streak is the fourth-longest in the country ... ECAC Hockey teams own two of the top four streaks, including Quinnipiac, which is 11-0-2.

STREAKING II: RPI's eight-game unbeaten streak is the 11th longest in school history for a single season ... The 1984-85 team went 33 games (32-0-1) without a loss ... Below are the Engineers top unbeaten streaks all-time:

SHARING THE WEALTH: Rensselaer players have recorded two points on 13 occasions, but the Engineers have yet to see a three-point game.

ALL-TIME VS. WESTERN MICHIGAN: The Engineers hold a 4-2 edge in the all-time series with the Broncos, dating back to the first ever meeting on December 28, 1978 ... Western Michigan came away with a 4-2 win on that day in  Troy ... The teams split a two-game series in Kalamazoo in November of 1980, before play three games in the 90s ... The Engineers won all three of those contests, including a two-game series at the Houston Field House in January of 1999.

SCOUTING WESTERN MICHIGAN: The Broncos come into the weekend at 4-6-1, including a 2-4-0 mark in NCHC play ... They are led offensively by junior Sheldon Dries, who has five goals and three assists for eight points ... Freshmen Griffen Molino (2 goals, 5 assists) and Colt Conrad (1 goal, 6 assists) have seven points each, while junior Kyle Novak (3 goals, 3 assists) has six.

BRONCOS GOALTENDING: Senior Lukas Hafner is 2-3-1 with a 2.82 goals against average and a .913 save percentage ... Junior Collin Olson is 2-3-0 with a 3.38 goals against average and a .904 save percentage.

W. MICHIGAN SWEPT BY SCSU: The Broncos dropped a two-game series against St. Cloud State on November 13 and 14, falling by scores of 5-2 and 11-1 ... Frederik Tiffels had a goal and an assist in the opener, before Aaron Hadley netted the lone tally in the Saturday defeat.

RPI CONNECTION: Western Michigan assistant coach Ben Barr is a 2004 graduate of Rensselaer and former Engineers forward ... He recorded 25 goals and 39 assists for 64 points in 140 games at RPI ... He scored two shorthanded goals on the same power play against Union on March 8, 2003.
