Fan ShopPASADENA, Calif. - Five different players earned two wins each to lead the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) women's tennis team to an 8-1 win over California Institute of Technology in a match between regionally-ranked opponents. The Engineers, listed 19th in the Northeast, improve to 5-4. The Beavers, who are 12th in the West, are now 4-6.
Rensselaer swept all three doubles matches, before taking five of the six singles matches for the win. Senior captain
Casey Olsen led the way, winning 6-0, 6-2 at No. 1 singles. Junior
Emily Laurilliard won at No. 2 singles, 6-4, 6-3, while also teamming with freshman
Melanie Frank to win at No. 1 doubles, 8-4. The one loss for RPI was a three-set match at No. 4 in which senior captain
Amanda Alexander lost 1-6, 6-2, 10-5.
Rensselaer concludes its Spring Break trip on March 27 at Biola University at 1pm.
