Women's Lax Ready For Home Opener Thursday

Engineers welcome Oneonta to Renwyck Field (4pm)

HOME OPENER: Rensselaer hosts SUNY Oneonta in its 2015 home opener, Thursday at 4pm on Renwyck Field.

RPI EDGED BY #11 WILLIAMS IN OT: Hillary Cook scored the eventual game-winning goal, 2:41 into overtime, to lift 11th-ranked Williams to a 12-11 victory over Rensselaer on Tuesday ... The Ephs jumped out to an early 5-0 lead, before RPI senior Erin Riley finally found the net with 10:59 left in the first half ... The Engineers then rattled off three more goals to pull within 5-4 with 6:38 on the clock in the first ... An Anne Rehfuss tally with 2:40 to go, gave the hosts a 6-4 lead at the break ... In the second half, Rehfuss and Cook answered an early Riley goal to go up three (8-5), but the Engineers stormed back to pull within one (8-7), before eventually taking the lead for the first time, 10-9, with 4:14 left in regulation ... Graduate student Meg Colitz had two goals during the run that put RPI on top ... The two teams then traded goals, with RPI sophomore Sophie Hager netting the go-ahead marker to make it 11-10 with just 40 seconds left ... Nancy Palmer answered 19 seconds later, sending the game to overtime ... Senior captain Erin Amarello finished with 10 saves for RPI, while Brett Bidstrup (2 saves) and Margaret Draper (5 saves) combined to backstop the Ephs to victory.

EARLY LEADERS: Senior Erin Riley leads the Engineers with three goals and two assists for five points ... Graduate student Meg Colitz (3 goals), junior Mackenzie O'Neil (2 goals, 1 assist) and sophomore Sophie Hager (2 goals, 1 assist) are all tied for second with three points apiece.

RPI GOALTENDING: Senior captain Erin Amarello (0-1) has a 10.91 goals against average and a .455 save percentage.

2014 ONEONTA LEADERS: Senior Nikki Fioretti is the team's top returning scorer ... She notched 43 points on 35 goals and eight assists in 2014 ... Junior Catherine Clarks is second with 35 goals and seven assists for 42 points ... Senior captain Nicole Boylan rounds out the top three returners with 39 points last year, scoring 26 goals and adding 13 assists ... The Red Dragons do not return an goaltenders who saw time last season, as Amanda Reichardt started all 19 games, going 12-7 with a 10.26 goals against average and a .466 save percentage.

LAST YEAR VS. ONEONTA: Katie Flannery scored the game-winner with 3:59 remaining, as the SUNY Oneonta edged Rensselaer, 6-5, on March 1, 2014 ... Flannery took the pass from Casey Sarle before shooting the ball past Erin Amarello ... The swarming Oneonta defense, anchored by goalie Amanda Reichardt and defender Marissa Makar, denied the Rensselaer attack over the final four minutes to secure the win ... Reichardt recorded eight saves including one final save with 33 seconds to go on a shot by Jamie Wakefield ... Makar collected five of Oneonta's 14 caused turnovers in the game ... Nikki Fioretti tied the score for Oneonta 37 seconds previous to Flannery's goal with an assist from senior Chelsea Collins ... Rensselaer grabbed a 2-0 lead in the first six minutes of the contest on goals by Michelle Denny and Marissa Page ... Jillian Donodeo then scored back-to-back goals to tie the game at two apiece in the ninth minute ... The Red Dragons went ahead, 3-2, on an unassisted goal by Nicole Boylan in the 20th minute ...  Page then scored back-to-back goals in the final 5:27 to give the Engineers a 4-3 lead at the break ... Erin Riley scored just 23 seconds into the second half to give Rensselaer a two-goal lead at 5-3 ... Kiera McNally got Oneonta to 5-4 when she scored an unassisted goal in the 37th minute ... Page led the Engineers with three goals in the game ... Amarello came up with 13 saves in the loss, as Oneonta outshot Rensselaer 29-17.

THE CAPTAINS: Graduate student Meg Colitz and senior Erin Amarello are in their second seasons as captains of the Engineers ... They are joined in 2015 by senior Lydia Wolter and junior Sara Bischof.

BY POSITION: The Engineers roster consists of four attackers, seven midfielders, five defenders, two goaltenders and two players that play multiple positions.

BY CLASS: The team is made up of one graduate student, five seniors, six juniors, three sophomores and five freshmen.

RENSSELAER'S COACHES: The Engineers are led by 13th-year head coach Leslie DeLano ... She is a 2000 graduate of William Smith College ... DeLano is assisted by Mackenzie Riegel.

UPCOMING ACTION: Rensselaer is back in action on Wednesday, when it travels to 10th-ranked Middlebury (5pm).
